Hindsight is 20/20?

We used to say this many years ago when we were younger, “You Betta Recognize.” All we were trying to say was that we wanted someone to acknowledge us. As if when you do recognize, you will see and understand what we are pointing out to you.

Sometimes we are looking for things from God to come in a certain way. We are looking for it to come from certain people. We are looking for it to come from a certain job. We are looking for it to come from a certain circumstance. We already have a scenario in our head and that’s exactly the way we are looking for it to come. Bottom line, we are looking for it to come in a familiar, comfortable way.

But when it does come, we don’t even recognize it.

The children of Israel in the wilderness were hungry and He promised to feed them. God sent food in a different way. When they woke up the next morning, they say it all on the ground and called it manna. Manna means, “What is this?” They knew what bread looked like, but this type was unfamiliar. They were not looking for to come this way.

We pray for transportation. God blesses you with a hoopty but you can’t see God because you were looking for a Mercedes Benz, Cadillac, or BMW.

God comes in ways that he knows will grow us, ways that will move us from one degree to another. Ways that will get us closer to Him. They are not comfortable. Sometimes, they are downright difficult.

In Luke 24, His death, burial, and resurrection had already taken place, but they did not know about the resurrection. This was the 3rd day and Christ had risen. There were two people walking on the road to Emmaus on a 7-mile journey back home. They were discouraged. They begin to doubt all that they had heard and been told, based on what they could not see. They said, “But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel, v. 21

v. 15 says, "While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them."

They never recognized Jesus, but Jesus took the opportunity to help them to understand and build their faith and trust in what had just happened. On this 7-miles walk, all they could do was just listen.

When He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us? v.30-32
