Let's Go Deeper

Growing up, I have always loved playing in water, but I could not swim. As a family we used to go to Jones Lake, White Lake, and Jordan Lake. Now, I would always get in the water, but only to my feet, maybe to my knees, but that’s it. I’ve always had this overwhelming fear of water. Well, not so much the water, but drowning in the water. So, about 15 years ago, a friend of mine asked if I wanted to take swimming lessons with her. We took the 6-week class and now I know how to swim. Before I started, there was one thing I was more afraid of and that was putting my head under water. And what do you know, the first lesson of the class was putting your head under water. As I begin to learn the techniques, it became easier to do and the fear eventually left. Now I am not afraid of the water. I don’t have to stay in the shallow waters only, but have learned to swim in the deep, where it not only covers my feet, my knees, or waist, but it covers my entire body.

The Prophet Ezekiel says in 47:3-5

"When the man went out toward the east with a line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits, and he led me through the water, water reaching the ankles. Again he measured a thousand cubits and led me through the water, water reaching the knees. Again he measured a thousand cubits and led me through the water, water reaching the waist. Again he measured a thousand cubits; and it was a river that I could not cross for the water had risen, enough water to swim in, a river that could not be crossed."

  1. Follow the direction of the Spirit, (water reaching the ankles)

  2. Follow the control of the Spirit. (water reaching the knees)

  3. Recognize the power of the Spirit. (water reaching the waist)

  4. Surrender to the Spirit, (water over the head.)

There were four different distances from the temple where the stream was found to be at increasing depths until it was over his head. I am sure that we all can identify where we are. Whether we are at ankle deep, knee deep, waist deep, or completely submerged, we all must go deeper.

Maybe you were like me, playing in the shallow end all these years and you’ve gotten very comfortable.

Maybe God has been pricking your heart to make the next step and it seems a little scary. You’re a little afraid of putting your head under water.

Or maybe you are just downright thirsty for God and you are tired of what’s going on in your life, and today you just want to throw your hands up and allow the Him to be the one you submerge in, the one you allow to control you instead of money or people, or even yourself.

Let’s go deeper!
